Overview

Creole Translator (“the App”) is a free iOS application that uses AI services to transcribe and translate speech between Haitian Creole and English. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.

Information We Collect

Audio Data

When you use the App’s recording feature, your voice is captured by your device’s microphone and sent to third-party AI services for processing. Specifically:

• Groq AI receives your audio recording to transcribe and translate your speech.
• Audio is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
• Audio is not stored on your device after processing.
• Groq AI processes audio temporarily to produce transcription and translation results. Please review Groq’s Privacy Policy for details on how they handle submitted data.

Text-to-Speech

When you use the “speak” feature to hear a translation read aloud:

• The translated text is sent to Groq AI to generate speech audio.
• Text is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection and is not stored on your device after playback.

Analytics

The App uses Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymous usage data such as which features are used and crash reports. This helps us improve the App. Firebase Analytics may collect:

• Approximate device type and OS version
• App usage events (e.g., recording started, translation completed)
• Crash logs

Firebase Analytics does not collect the content of your speech or translations. Review Google’s Privacy Policy for more detail.

Advertising

The App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers and other information to serve personalized or non-personalized ads, subject to your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) preference on your device. Review Google’s Advertising Privacy Policy for more detail.

Microphone Permission

The App requires microphone access to record your speech. You will be prompted to grant this permission the first time you use the recording feature. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your iOS Settings.

Data Retention

• Audio: Not stored on your device after processing. Groq AI’s retention practices are governed by their own privacy policy.
• Translation history: Stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted to any server.
• Analytics: Retained by Firebase per Google’s standard data retention settings.

Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Your Choices

• Microphone: Disable in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
• Ad Tracking: Managed via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or you will be prompted on first launch via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency dialog.
• Translation history: Can be cleared within the App at any time.
• AI data consent: You can revoke your consent to share audio with AI services in the App’s Settings screen at any time. Revoking consent will disable the recording and translation features.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
