MonoFrame is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no user accounts — we never ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
When you send a photo to a frame, the image is converted on your device to a small 1-bit black & white file at your frame's resolution. Only that converted file is uploaded to our cloud storage (Google Firebase, operated by Google LLC) so your frame can download it. The original photo never leaves your device.
Each frame stores only its most recent image; sending a new photo replaces the previous one. Images are associated with a random frame ID, not with you.
Each frame is identified by a randomly generated frame ID and secret token. The token is stored in your device's Keychain and on the frame itself. Our servers store only a cryptographic hash of the token and a "last seen" timestamp, used to show your frame's status. Your home WiFi password is sent directly from your phone to the frame over the frame's own setup hotspot — it is never sent to our servers.
MonoFrame is free, open source, and contains no ads, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking of any kind.
During setup, the app talks to your frame directly over your local network, and can optionally scan your network to discover frames. This traffic stays on your network and is never sent to us.
Removing a frame in the app deletes its credentials from your device. Each frame's stored image is overwritten on every send. If you would like the data for a frame removed from our servers entirely, email us with the frame ID (shown in the app) and we will delete it.
MonoFrame is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
