Privacy Policy

Overview

Creole Translator ("the App") is an Android app developed by James Baker that provides speech-to-text translation between Haitian Creole and English. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it on your Android device.

Microphone Access

The App requires access to your device's microphone to record speech for translation. The following applies:

• Audio is recorded only while you actively hold the record button
• Recorded audio is saved temporarily to your device's local cache folder for processing, then deleted immediately after the translation is returned
• Audio is never stored permanently on your device or on any server
• The App does not record audio in the background

Third-Party API: Groq

The App sends audio and text to the Groq API to perform three functions:

• Speech-to-text: Your recorded audio clip is sent to Groq's Whisper service to produce a text transcript
• Translation: The transcript text is sent to Groq's Llama model to produce the translation
• Text-to-speech (English only): English text is sent to Groq's PlayAI service to generate spoken audio

Text-to-Speech for Haitian Creole

When speaking Haitian Creole text aloud, the App uses Android's built-in Text-to-Speech engine. This processing happens entirely on-device and no data is transmitted externally.

Translation History

The App stores a local history of your recent translations (up to 50 entries) on your device using Android's standard SharedPreferences storage. This data:

• Never leaves your device
• Is not backed up to any cloud service by the App
• Can be deleted at any time from within the App

Data We Do NOT Collect

The App does not collect any of the following:

• Names, email addresses, or account information
• Location data
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs
• Usage analytics or crash reports sent to third parties
• Browsing history or behavioral data

Advertising and Tracking

The App contains no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no analytics frameworks. It does not participate in any ad networks.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the Play Store release notes.
