Tap the big button, let your dog bark, whine, growl, or howl (up to 15 seconds), then tap again or wait for it to stop on its own. DogTalk measures how loud, how long, and how high-pitched the sound was, classifies it, and picks a fitting "translation."
No — it's for entertainment. Dogs don't speak English. The translations, moods, and confidence percentages are playful guesses, not a behavioral or veterinary tool.
Totally normal. Try it when they're excited (doorbell, walk time, squirrel), or demonstrate a bark yourself — the app doesn't judge.
The sound wasn't loud enough above the room's background noise. Get the phone closer to your dog, and make sure nothing is covering the microphone at the bottom of the phone.
DogTalk needs the microphone to hear your dog. If you declined the prompt, enable it in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → DogTalk.
No. Audio is analyzed live on your device, never saved, and never sent anywhere. The app has no accounts; it shows ads and collects anonymous usage analytics to stay free — see the privacy policy.
Translations are kept only for the current session and vanish when you close the app. Use "Share what they said" to save one somewhere.
Ads keep DogTalk free. When iOS asks for tracking permission you can choose whether ads are personalized — declining still shows ads, just non-personalized ones.
